The detective in the case has retired. His step parents (suspects in the case) have moved away. The media has moved on to other issues and allowed links to past news articles to break and disappear.
As a foster child, no adult speaks for Hasanni. No adult demands answers or holds anyone accountable. Just three months after he disappeared, a vigil attracted just five people.
The Oakland Police Department says the case is still open.
